How to Use UNIX Timestamps

A Unix timestamp is a way to track time as a running total of seconds. It should also be pointed out that this point in time technically does not change no matter where you are located on the globe. In ExpiWell, you can download the data file that contains the survey notification time using the UNIX format.

First, go to Insights > Logs > Download.

Once you click the 'Download' button, you will be presented with two timestamp format options: 'Download with Unix timestamp' and 'Download with Normal time'.

Once you download the data, the notification time will display the chosen timestamp.

In Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) and Experience Sampling Method (ESM), UNIX timestamps in ExpiWell are pivotal for precise and consistent time tracking across global studies. Unlike conventional time formats that vary based on location, UNIX timestamps provide a universal measure of time in seconds since a specific point, offering unparalleled accuracy and uniformity in data collection.

This consistency is crucial for researchers who require exact timing of events and responses, especially in studies spanning multiple time zones. When downloading data from ExpiWell, choosing the UNIX format for survey notification times ensures that researchers can align and compare data with precision, regardless of geographical differences.

This feature is not just about recording time; it provides a reliable framework for analysis, enabling researchers to draw accurate conclusions and insights. The use of UNIX timestamps in ESM and EMA research represents a commitment to high data integrity and validity standards, making it an indispensable tool for researchers in a globally connected world.

Additional Information:

Furthermore, the integration of UNIX timestamps in ExpiWell enhances the efficiency of data processing and analysis. Researchers can seamlessly integrate this time data with other software tools for advanced analytics, facilitating a deeper and more nuanced understanding of temporal patterns and behaviors. This compatibility with various analytical platforms streamlines the research process and opens up new possibilities for interdisciplinary studies and collaborations. Including UNIX timestamps is a testament to ExpiWell's commitment to providing robust, versatile, and user-centric solutions for the research community, ensuring that data accuracy and utility are at the forefront of ecological and experiential research methodologies.
